DAN MCMILLION QUARTET
Cocoa Beach Country Club, 5000 Tom Warriner Blvd.
Grammy nominated trumpeter Dan McMillion & his Quartet will perform the cool jazz sounds of Miles Davis, Chet Baker & Freddy Hubbard for another high caliber concert brought to you by the Space Coast Jazz Society.
McMillion received that GRAMMY nomination in 2002 for his CD, “Got The Spirit” and has recorded a total of 6 CD’s on The Sea Breeze label.
Tampa based McMillion was formerly with the Woody Herman Orchestra. His trumpet and flugelhorn style is often compared to that of Maynard Ferguson.
McMillion’s CD “High Octane” was praised as “excellent” by Herb Wong, an internationally respected jazz journalist, historian, critic and concert producer who called the CD “one of the best Big Band recordings” that he has heard in some time.
McMillion was born in West Virginia and raised in Detroit, listening to all the big bands and was influenced by Harry James, Ray Anthony and particularly Maynard Ferguson. McMillion takes flight on trumpet, flugelhorn and superbone in spite of a band that tends to get mired in the intricacies of charts by Oliver Nelson, Dave Wolpe, Sammy Nestico, Bill Holman and Bill Mathieu.
Open to the public, no reservations needed & admission is paid at the door. $10 for jazz society members, $15 for guests & students are free. The Cocoa Beach Country Club is located at 5000 Tom Warriner Blvd., Cocoa Beach, FL.
